From Our Kitchen to Yours: Simple Things Worth Sharing

Here are some simple, pleasant suggestions I’ve had success with of late. These aren’t complete recipes these are just suggestions. I will say that I’ve grown fond of bread flour vs self rising vs all purpose as well as using Greek yogurt and lime juice. These are a few of my favorite things. And I’ve grown fond of sharing them with friends and neighbors.

And remember, it doesn’t have to be a lot. Just one or two muffins. Just a slice or two of bread. Just something that says you thought of them.

🌿 Garden Herb Focaccia

Nothing says "come on over" quite like warm bread. Press fresh rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, or chives into the dough, drizzle generously with olive oil, and finish with flaky sea salt. Wrap a loaf in parchment and twine for a neighbor, or slice it warm to share around the dinner table.

Sharing Tip: Add a small jar of herb butter or olive oil for dipping.

🍓 Strawberry Muffins

A basket of homemade muffins has a wonderful way of saying, "I was thinking of you." Fresh strawberries keep them moist, and a little coarse sugar sprinkled on top creates a delicate crunch.

Sharing Tip: Place three or four muffins in a small paper bakery bag tied with ribbon.

🍅 Tomato & Basil Bruschetta

Chopped garden tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, olive oil, flaky salt, and a splash of balsamic spooned over toasted bread.

It's one of summer's simplest pleasures.

🍉 Watermelon, Feta & Mint Salad

Cold watermelon cubes, crumbled feta, fresh mint, olive oil, cracked pepper, and a squeeze of lime.

Cool, refreshing, and made for hot July afternoons.

🌽 Sweet Corn Salad

Fresh corn, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, green onion, basil, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

Even better after an hour in the refrigerator.

🥒 Refrigerator Pickles

Slice cucumbers and onions into a jar with vinegar, water, sugar, salt, dill, garlic, and peppercorns.

Ready in a day and perfect for sharing.

🌿 Garden Herb Butter

Whip softened butter with parsley, chives, basil, garlic, lemon zest, and a pinch of sea salt.

Wonderful on warm bread, grilled corn, baked potatoes, or vegetables.

🍌 Banana Bread

One of the oldest neighborly gifts around.

Wrap a loaf in parchment paper and twine, and tuck in a handwritten note.

"Thought you might enjoy a slice with your morning coffee."

🫙 Herb Salt

Pulse coarse sea salt with rosemary, thyme, oregano, parsley, or sage.

Let dry before storing in a small jar.

A lovely homemade gift that lasts for months.

🌼 A Garden Basket

Perhaps the nicest gift isn't a recipe at all.

Fill a small basket with:

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • Fresh basil

  • Parsley

  • Rosemary

  • A cucumber

  • A zucchini

  • A few fresh flowers

  • A handwritten recipe card

Sometimes sharing your garden is enough.

A Neighborly Note

This issue isn't about perfection.

It's about making one extra loaf of focaccia.

Picking a few more tomatoes than you need.

Adding an extra place at the table.

Sending your child next door with a basket of muffins still warm from the oven.

Communities are built in ordinary moments, shared one simple kindness at a time.
